Excerpt from personal reflections:
We Day 2012
I was fortunate enough to be able to attend We Day 2012. It was an amazing, uplifting experience. On the sky train ride home with my students, I was saddened by the fact that I would only be with them for such a short time, and that I might not be so lucky to attend next year.
However, that shouldn't bar me from bringing social justice into my classroom, be it
grade 7 or grade 1, nor does it need to be focused on a far away country. There is a real need for social change here in BC- students come to school without food, clothing, and even sleep.
Going forward, I will remember the inspiration gleaned from We Day and strive to inject it into all my curriculum. Kids can make a difference - all they need is the chance and the backup.
